Monday Motivation – 3 Tips for Staying Motivated in 2020.

Grab a coffee and let’s chat this morning.

We all know that 2020 has really been a doozy. We are all just doing the best we can to manage this year and if you find yourself struggling at times, I want to share 3 things that have helped me stay motivated this year.

  1. Reframe your goals. If you had a goal this year to travel the world, that’s definitely not happening. Instead you can reframe it to be, “Read books about travel or different cultures”. Take whatever goals you had and reframe them to fit the new context we are living in. This has helped my mental health so much. Instead of feeling down about not being able to accomplish a specific goal, I now have the power to reframe it into something that is actually attainable.
  2. Just go for it, even if it’s not perfect. I am guilty of not starting something because I’m worried it won’t be perfect. Perfectionism is glamorized in our society and it’s not healthy. We need to be OK with things not being perfect. Once we let go of the idea of “perfect” it’s much easier to be motivated and keep going. This is a kind of random example but do you ever notice how much kids love to color or draw even though they are kind of horrible at it? These kids are untainted by perfectionism so they just go for it and enjoy the process. We could all use a little more of this same child- like motivation.
  3. Leave it in the journal. More than ever, journaling has really saved my sanity in 2020. Once technique I use to stay motivated is to clear my mind of cluttered thoughts that are holding me back. I do this by writing down all of these anxious, self-defeating, or just overall bothersome thoughts into my journal. Once I get them out and give them a place, that is where they stay. I acknowledge them but then they stay there in the journal and my mind has space for the things that are truly important. This has helped me so much.

I hope this short post was helpful or interesting to you. I actually went into this post idea wanting to share “5 tips” but then my 1 year old son started getting fussy so I need to cut it short. I will do a follow up post sharing some more tips! Let me know in the comments section what things are motivating you this year. I would love to know and share with everyone. Through these tough times we have to help each other.

Have a great day!
