Happy March! To start this month off right I have a very special morning routine guest post from my friend Mary. She is a strong, talented, determined, beautiful, and all around incredible woman so I know I definitely want to know how she starts her day every morning. Enjoy!
It’s M poppin into Coffee with Courtney to say hello to all of you! Let me tell you a quick story of how this all came about. Last year I had the pleasure of working with Courtney on an important event which not only provided a space for discussion, but participants also learned how to recognize the signs that someone may be thinking about taking their life, and what actions to take! Courtney led the workshop, infusing it with her knowledge, and aromatherapy, it was a huge success and I hope we can do it again soon.
While we were putting together all of the logistics for the experience I find out that Courtney in her spare time maintains this awesome blog! We got to talking about self care and our different methods. I’m a full time entrepreneur, and taking care of myself is critical to my business success so that I can take care of my clients. I have a morning routine that I follow and Courtney thought it would be great if I shared it here as a guest blog post! I hope you find it useful.
Giving up alarms:
Now I know this part may not be practical for some of you. Awhile ago I became aware that waking up using an alarm can actually be harmful to your health! I’m lucky to have the flexibility to make my own schedule so I decided to give up using an alarm and let me body wake up naturally.
Once I wake up the very first thing I do is head to the water closet and brush my chompers. Apparently all this nasty stuff accumulates in our mouths while we snooze. If you ingest any food or liquids without removing some of the gunk it can have horrible effects. In fact it’s been linked to heart disease, which is the leading killer of women!
After I get rid of all that yucky mouth stuff I drink a minimum of 1 glass of water. Sometimes I’ll infuse the water with mint from my garden. Sometimes I’ll do some lemon water. Other weeks its cucumber. You can do watermelon, or really any type of fruit you may have laying around.
The water usually gets things flowing and is a perfect segway into stretching. During my stretch I lay out a yoga mat and put on some music. I have on occasion also listened to a meditation. I breathe and I stretch out. I do my stretches for as long as I want. I don’t put a constraint on this because it usually depends on how I feel for the day, or what time it is and what else I have going on.
The last part of my routine is smiling. I think about what I’m grateful for. If nothing pops to mind, which rarely happens, simply knowing that I woke up to see another day provides me enough inspiration to crack a smile.
P.S. Don’t forget to follow Mary on Instagram below because she is doing amazing things and you don’t want to miss any of them!
